Aguleri kicks as Vice President Yemi Osibanjo visits Umueri
Awka,
Levinus Ndukwe
The vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday, 18th May
2019, visited Umueri community for the burial ceremony of Late Madam Florence
Nneli, the mother in-law of his friend and Chaplain, Aso Rock Villa, Pastor
Seyi Malomo.
Akikolegit gathered that the Aso Rock Chaplain,
Pastor Seyi Malomo who was also at Umueri is married to Pastor Mrs. Obiageli
Malomo from Umueri community. Though Pastor Seyi Malomo the Aso Rock Chaplain
who's relationship with the Vice President necessitated the visit, our correspondent
also gathered that both were colleague Pastors at the Redeem Christian Church.
Our correspondent reported that the Vice President's
Helicopter touched down Otuocha township stadium Umueri, at exactly 12:41
pm, he was received by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem
Okeke and the Traditional Ruler of Umueri, HRM Igwe Sir Benneth lzuchukwu Emeka
JP (Oke-ebo II of Umueri) and thereafter proceeded immediately to Ama Umueri
(the village square) for the ceremony.
However, this visit did not go down well with some people and
has drawn negative comments and criticism by some elements in Aguleri over the
noble idea of awarding a title of "Nwanne di na mba" (A brother from
another land ) to Vice President Yemi Osibanjo by the Traditional Ruler of Umueri
Kingdom, HRM Igwe Ben Emeka JP.
According to our correspondent, "some of the critiques
are particularly irked by the fact that the Vice President only came to Umueri
community without deeming it fit to also visit Aguleri a neighboring community or
even say HELLO to them."
This is not the first time the Vice President will be coming
to Anambra state, but this is his first time in Umueri community considered by
many lgbos as the "Craddle of lgbo Race."

Speaking with Mr. Tochukwu Chidebelu one of the aids of the
Traditional Ruler, he pointed out that "the community was highly elated to
welcome the number two man to Umueri community".
He told our correspondent that "Umueri people, as well
as her neighbouring communities are peace loving people and has demonstrated it
by giving the vice president a warmth reception.
On the criticism of some Aguleri people regarding the title
given to the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Mr Tochukwu dismissed it and
said it was a non-issue.
"As far as i am concerned it is totally a non-issue. Umueri community through their able Traditional Ruler
has given a well-deserving title to the Vice President of the federal Republic
of Nigeria, and anyone who is not okay with that is entitled to his own
opinion."
When persuade to make a comment on some of the criticism
coming from Aguleri, he simply said ... "I don't have time for that, we are
brothers and good neighbours".
